Doula Training

DOULA TRAINING enables individuals to become practicing Doulas. Doula training is usually held in workshops by trained doulas or midwives. Doula training includes: defining the practice of the Doula; being able to list benefits of the Doula on obstetrical outcomes; listing reasons for prenatal and postpartum meetings between Doula and client; detail of labor support needs of women during second stage of labor -- including pushing techniques for natural and medicated births; medication/epidural use in Doula-supported birth; emotional needs of women in difficult or complicated labor, breathing techniques and maternal positioning; Doual's role during cesarean birth and vaginal births after cesarean; description of Doula's role in the immediate postpartum; indentifying the importance of Doula certification and Doula networking; describing steps that need to be taken to create own business

Doula training involves attending labor Doula training, passing an open book test on childbirth knowledge, attendance of childbirth educational class, submissions of copies of good evaluations from at least three women to whom you've provided labor support, and final certification.
